Battle raged on the desert sands of the Great Depression. A land of tribal warriors, scattered and leaderless, was finally united under one mind, a man proclaimed as Husam al-Din, the Sword of the Faith. On the dark day of his death, al-Din’s priests tore his mind apart, preventing his treacherous wife, Maymunah, from taking control of the armies. They disappeared beyond the borders of the known lands, taking with them six harmonic stones containing the mind of al-Din, leaving the tribes leaderless and united only by faith. Revenge vowed, Maymunah set her descendants on a quest to recover the lost stones. Centuries passed as nothing was found, until twenty generations later, in an ice cave deep in the Meil’vohllen Mountains, Hallen made a discovery that would change the world forever. Unable to contain the power of the stones, Hallen’s mind was lost, and for three further generations the daughters of Maymunah have only heard whispers in the wind... The Madness of Hallen is the first of four epic fantasy novels, following the lives of two brothers in their quest against the rightful heir to the mind of Husam al-Din.

I tried really hard to connect to this book and its characters. No such luck. The idea behind it is good (hence why I started reading it in the first place), but the execution is mind-numbingly tedious. I just can't go any further. Maybe it gets super amazing in just a few more chapters...who knows? I won't. I've gotten to the point where I'm AVOIDING reading because of how much I don't want to be bored to sleep. And the whole Orhl & Keysia thing? What?! It might be different further in the book, but Keysia is already a selfish brat in my mind now. Nice try anyway.Product details

The Madness of Hallen The Khalada Stone Volume 1 Mr Russell Meek Books Reviews
A great read, getting better as the characters develop
Once I got my head around some terms and the characters, I really enjoyed the book. 10/10 would recommend.
I found the personalities and their environment very believable. You are transported totally to another dimension. Its a great story.
I met the author at the local shopping mall and bought his book. Unfortunately i gave up about 1/3 into the book. Russell then kindly sent me a free kindle link and this time i managed to get through the whole book. It is very long and drawn out and could have been written in half the pages. Not sure i have the patience to go through another 3 books to reach the conclusion.
I love the twists and turns this story has following these brothers in their search for answers! Great read!
Never read anything quite like this before, quite complex in terms of characters and unique in its setting and ideas. Enjoyed the book though in places found myself skimming as too wordy. But definitely at the end wanted to read Book 2 asap.
I was impressed with the imaginative and descriptive writing of this book, it was easy to visualise the scenes. I stumbled at first till I got a handle on who was who, but then I read it quickly, anticipating each part and eager to find the truth of the stones. I got pulled into the storyline and into the heart of Ohrl, and the women he loves as he grows into a man. I was travelling while reading, and found myself finding Brunn in the villages I visited, imagining the characters stumbling out of the inns. I cant wait to read the second part of his adventure.
I tried really hard to connect to this book and its characters. No such luck.
