Vampire - In the Beginning, is the first in the series of journals detailing the life of Gwen, a 500 year old vampire. Each novel focuses on a period in Gwen's life, her love's, losses, failure's, and hope's. Bringing different periods in history to life, readers will grow to love Gwen and Robert (The vampire leader), and their bitter, explosive, and passionate love. The 'Vampires' series begins in Tudor England and continues through each novel until present time.

EXTRACT FROM VAMPIRE - IN THE BEGINNING

'Tom’s mother Martha was sprawled across the large kitchen table, her clothes ripped, and in places, torn completely away; her breasts fell from her laced bodice, flaccid and drooping to the sides of her lifeless body. Her legs were at a strange angle, and her skirts bunched up into a ball at her waist. I could see, even from where I was standing, that she was dead! Martha's eyes were open, staring into nothingness and devoid of life, but it was her throat that caught my attention, it gaped open, and it looked like, what I imagined, the huge black cavern of hell to look like.'

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Throughout her life, Charmain has wanted to become an author, but family and business commitments stood in the way and her writing consisted of a few short stories on the rare occasion that she had time to write them. In late 2012 a freak accident finally allowed time for Charmain to indulge in her passion for writing.

Vampire In the Beginning Vampire Series Book 1 eBook Charmain Marie Mitchell

The story is told in first person narrative, in the form of journal entries (sort of). It includes five books that I feel fall around the length to be considered novellas.
Story Pros:
The writer came up with an interesting twist to how vampires came to be. I found this "story with-in the story" to be the best part of the whole thing. It is a fairly enjoyable read and I didn't feel as if I had wasted my time on it. I did however, read it through Kindle Unlimited. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much if I had paid for it, most likely feeling as if I had spent more than it was worth.
Now for the "but".
1) The main character needs to be fleshed out and developed more. She is supposed to be over five hundred years old and reads like a 15 year old. This might be fine when she is at the beginning of her vampire life, but not when she has reached 50, 100 or 200 years of age. I honestly didn't care for her that much at some points and enjoyed her mostly as a vehicle to carry the story forward.
2) They need to be heavily edited!!!!! The writer thanks an individual who she calls her editor extraordinaire, but she should be firing them. I was mentally editing them as I read. She is way to enamored with the words "however" and "thus". I swear that at one point she had used them both at least five times IN ONE PAGE! It reads something along the lines of:
Thus, we (did action number 1). However, we (did action number two), Thus, we (did action number 3), bla, bla, bla, stuff, Oh, I miss him, I hate him, but he's the love of my life, stuff, stuff, stuff, Thus, I had to do (action number 4). However, I (action number 5).
After a couple chapters of this, you need to put it down and come back later.
To summarize, the book has great bones, but not great filling. With a really great editor (or even a half way decent, professional one) and a bit of character development this series could be turned into a really amazing full length novel.

Vampire In the Beginning Vampire Series Book 1 eBook Charmain Marie Mitchell Reviews

This seamed to be written in the for of a journal starting in 14 century. A different version on the making and advance of vampires. Some where the author draws and stands on the evil bloodsuckers. And it did get in to the test of her life. I was a tad disappointed. Engh not s hot steamy Vamp stor
I didn't expect much for a free kindle book and I didn't get much. It's not a bad read, but it's also not a great one.

The author talks a lot, The first chapter is not even a scene. It is just facts. The scenes that do happen aren't easy to imagine. There is still a lot of the author talking in the scenes. This doesn't mean I want no narration, but I do want more things to happen, otherwise I get bored.

My favorite vampire novels are Bending Nature, Memnoch the Devil, and probably Vampire Diaries.

I like the attempt as being different, such as vampires cannot die when you rip their heart out. It just grows back. It would have been more interesting if it was explained how that works.
Sounded like a great book but because it's not audible it's not worth it so unfortunately this author has trash their book for the many of the people who are audible fan and have to pay through the roof to get audibles or through to get audibles unfortunately this was a complete let down on an excellent book that could've been sold 1000 times over unfortunately it's ruined by not having any more audible added two great books such as the vampire in the beginning ....
This book was a very quick read, but that is mostly because it is not a complete story. This is the intro of a story that was loosely tied up but does not stand well on its own. There were a lot of grammatical and spelling errors that needed editing.

Gwen is not well developed and her falling in love with the man who killed her fiance and his family has no grounding. None of the characters are developed or likable. Nothing really happens and nothing is memorable.
This novella does need some serious work grammatically speaking. There are run-on sentences, misplaced commas, typos (one that may have been subject / verb disagreement,) and the aforementioned gratuitous use of exclamation points. While all of this can detract from the work, I feel like the author put her imagination to good use coming up with the story. If certain points had been more descriptive, such as the scene where Edward is avenged by Robert, it would help. It seems like the mundane things are told in detail, but this particular scene was given in a few short paragraphs, and it just wasn't enough to draw me into the scene and make it feel real to me.
If all or most parts of this series were put together (due to their current lengths I can only categorize them as novellas,) proof read, polished, and advertised as a novel, I would buy it.
This was a nice, short story that obviously continues onto other books, that I will probably get. It held my attention throughout the story, and I found Gwen's backstory very interesting. My only complaint is that someone needs to format this book properly. No spaces or indents between paragraphs and dialogue makes it kinda hard to read. Also, the overuse of exclamation marks is unnecessary, especially in non-dialogue narration. Other than that, good book.
I have to admit I usually stay away from vampire books simply because most seem to be focused on some prepubescent teenager suffering from to much sexual frustration falling in love for some bad boy vampire who has all the personality of a well trained rock. This book is very different, the character is very three dimensional and is dealing with being thrust into the world of vampires and having to make the choice of living by their rules or dying.

It is a short read, a few hours but worth it and has me dying for the next book which I have also read and came back wanting more.
